All Alice Springs Language Centre lessons are held during timetables classes at Centralian Senior College. Students in Years 10, 11 & 12 are provided with 5 hours of face to face class time each week.
Students are assessed through both formative and summative work and feedback on their progress is provided on a regular basis.
Courses for students in Year 10
Students in Year 10 have the choice of Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian at continuers level. The Year 10 Language courses are for students continuing their language studies from middle school to senior level. Students in Year 10 also have the option of learning a new language at Stage 1 beginners level.
Courses for students in Stage 1 & 2
Beginner language courses are for students with little or no knowledge of a language. Students will develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading & writing and information & communication technologies to create and engage effectively with a range of spoken, written, visual and multimodal texts in the particular language.
Students must have no prior or very limited knowledge of experience of the language and not have lived in a country where that language is spoken.
Continuers language courses are designed for students who have previous knowledge of the language and who will have completed 400 to 500 hours by the time they have completed Stage 2. Students will interact with others to share information, ideas, opinions and experiences.
They will analyse texts to interpret meaning and examine relationships between language, culture and identity and reflect on the ways in which culture influences communication.
